STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Each Lent within the church calendar appears the ‘Stations of the Cross’. Have you ever wondered what they were or what you did; we did when we first moved into South Mymms. So what are they?
The Stations of the Cross are episodes that are traditionally thought to have occurred on Jesus journey to the Crucifixion and they are illustrated by the fourteen pictures around the walls at St Giles’. In the service we walk from one to the other stopping at each for a reading, time of prayer and reflection. We use a variety of settings; some of them reflect on the incident and its meaning for us, others link the incident to modern situations.
Why do we do it? It gives us time to pause in our weekly routine to reflect on Jesus’ death, to think about its meaning for us and the world today, it is also a time of quiet at the end of the day, a time to de-stress. Do come and join us, the service lasts about 30 minutes. This year we meet every Friday in Lent at 7.30pm on:-
Friday 8th February Friday 29th February
Friday 15th February Friday 7th March
Friday 22nd February Friday 14th March
If you would like to know more please ask Mother Brenda, Andrew or Mary Butcher and we can show you examples of the service settings.
