 Rev’d Brenda will be holding
a weekly ‘Surgery’ at the Vicarage, Hamilton Close
South Mymms, on Saturdays from 10.00am – noon.
For anyone who wishes to speak to her. No appointment necessary

Brenda is always happy to receive requests for prayer, or for a listening ear, whether on an occasional or a regular basis. It would be helpful, where possible, if contacts about non-urgent matters could avoid Wednesdays and Thursdays - but of course contact her at any time when necessary.  And she would be grateful to be told about illnesses or other emergencies affecting people living in the parishes.

December/January letter from Rev’d Brenda Tipping

Christian churches throughout the world share a common lectionary, what that means is that we read the same three excerpts from the Bible on the same Sundays throughout a three year cycle. We are allowed to veer from that if we wish, but there is something very comforting to know that we have that commonality.  I’ve just finished preparing my sermon on the Gospel story that’s set for this coming Sunday.  It’s a story about a master giving three of his servants some talents to look after, two of the servants use their talents to grow more, but the other one hides his safely until its time to return it to his master.

As we prepare for what is perhaps the most expensive time of the year, many people are undoubtedly getting very worried about how they’ll be able to afford Christmas. Sadly we’ve come to believe that Christmas can’t be right unless we’ve spent a huge amount of money on it.  We feel obliged to buy  expensive presents and new clothes for all the parties that we have to go to. Surely it doesn’t have to be like that, we all have talents, and those talents are given to us, not only for our own good, but for the good of those around us. Our talents differ and so its good to share, some of us are expert cooks, others skilled gardeners, knitters or brilliant at DIY, wouldn’t it be great if we recognised that and offered those talents as Christmas presents, so that a pot of jam or a knitted scarf, or a basket of home grown vegetables, wasn’t looked at as a second class gift to be apologised for, but something special and unique and given with love.

Whatever you are doing, and wherever you are this Christmas I hope that you’ll enjoy using your own precious talents
and enjoy sharing them with others.

A Happy and Holy Christmas to you all.

Revd Brenda
